An integrative approach
And what it means...
I believe therapy should adapt to the client and their needs.
Therapy is a unique experience for every person. It can be so powerful when you're feeling listened to and understood. We are all different. What might work for one client may not work for another. As an integrative counsellor I will take into account you as an individual, your circumstances and use elements of different approaches to help you explore and cope with your problems. By drawing on techniques from different types of therapy, you will find your sessions are tailored specifically for you and your needs.

I believe you will go on a journey of self discovery
and increased self awareness.
You will be able to process thoughts and feelings in a safe space
without judgement.

Types of therapy I work with
A person centred
approach
Probably the most common form of therapy, a person centred approach is lead by the client. If given the right conditions the client can reach their full potential and become their true self. To achieve this the therapist will give empathy, give you their unconditional positive regard and be congruent.

A person centred therapist won't give you the answers but with helping you explore issues, your feelings and beliefs in a safe environment, you will hopefully achieve the answers or process emotions that you came looking for.
CBT
CBT is more commonly used within the public health sector and looks at your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. CBT can be really powerful when looking at patterns of behaviours and feelings. We can look at the cycle of behaviour, how they have been unhelpful and look at tools and strategies that may help.

CBT can be really useful when looking at anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and health anxiety to name but a few.
Art & play therapy
Art therapy can be used to help understand and express yourself, either with talking or just through the creative activity. We will explore how your creative process can link with your feelings. Art therapy can include painting, colouring, decoupage and even music.

Play therapy is predominantly used with children and young people but can be used with adults who may struggle to communicate with how they feel. Play including sand trays, lego, craft are all good ways of exploring thoughts and emotions if vocabulary is limited.
Psychodynamic
A psychodynamic approach will look at how your past has shaped or influenced current behaviour.

Psychodynamic work will let you talk openly and freely about whatever comes to mind. A bit like person centred therapy, the sessions are client lead.

While we do interact, parts of your unconscious, the area that's been hidden may come through. We can then explore those thoughts and feelings and what they mean for you.
